Why hot wax?
Hot waxing is the most effective way to extend the life of your bike chain and maximize its performance. Our
high-quality chain wax provides long-lasting lubrication that protects against dirt and moisture. Thanks to the special
wax coating, your chain stays clean and always runs efficiently.
Advantages of hot waxing with our chain wax:
– Cleanliness – A waxed chain stays much cleaner. Your hands and clothes remain virtually free of grease and dirt.
– Dirt adhesion – wax does not attract dirt, unlike conventional oils.
– Less wear – your chain stays in top condition and runs more quietly.
– Reliable performance in any weather – rain or shine, your chain remains optimally protected.
– More efficient power transmission – thanks to reduced friction, you can ride for longer with less effort.

Step-by-step guide to hot waxing your bike chain
1. removing the chain
Shift to the smallest sprocket and chainring.
Open the chain lock (Quick Link) or use a chain tool.
Remove the chain from the bike.
2. thoroughly degrease the chain (most important step!)
New or used chains are full of oil – this must be completely removed.
How to proceed:
1.Place the chain in a jar/container.
2.Cover with degreaser (e.g. chain cleaner).
3Shake vigorously → the liquid turns black.
4. Repeat the process 2-3 times until hardly any dirt comes out.
Aim: The chain must be absolutely grease-free, otherwise the wax will not adhere properly.
The cassette and chainrings should also be grease-free.
3. dry the chain
Hang the chain up or lay it on a cloth.
Allow to dry completely (no residual moisture!).
4. melt the wax
Heat our HWK CHAIN COATING HOTWAX in the wax pot
to 80-90 °C (level 1-2).
(Do not boil – no smoke development)
5. wax the chain
Thread the chain onto the metal loop provided Place the chain completely in the liquid wax
Move the chain using the metal loop so that trapped air bubbles can escape
Leave in the wax for 5-10 minutes so that it penetrates all the rollers
6. cooling & hardening
Remove and hang up the chain Allow excess wax to drip off
Allow to cool until the chain is solid
Note: The chain will now become stiff – this is normal.
7. “Break” the chain (make it flexible)
Bend the stiff chain slightly with your hands Move each link once until the chain is flexible again
Wipe off excess wax with a clean microfiber cloth
8. reassembly
Put the chain back on the bike
Connect with chain lock
Crank it briefly – it may sound a little “dry” at first.
