Who does not know it – the Arlberg! In winter, an absolute hotspot for ski tourists from all over the world, 305 perfectly groomed kilometers of slopes and also when it comes to cross-country skiing, the area on the Arlberg has so much to offer.
But the Arlberg is not only convincing in winter. It can also be seen in the summer with its beautiful landscapes, countless hiking routes and so some beautiful lakes.
Our personal favorite on the Arlberg? Lake Formarin in the Zug Valley.
The hike to the Formarinsee we want to bring you a little closer in this article.
The starting point is the municipality of Lech. From there, you walk along the edge of the Lechbach stream in the direction of Zug, from where you hike along the Lechweg trail further and further into the valley. Passing the Älpele inn, you reach the most beautiful part of the Lechweg. Until you finally arrive at Lake Formarin, the trail delights with its small wooden footbridges and bridges, cascades as well as lush green alpine meadows – a natural spectacle no matter where you look.
At the end of the approximately 4-hour hike, you will be rewarded with the beautiful sight of Formarin Lake: a bright blue lake like something out of a picture book.
If you can’t get enough of the sight of the mountain lake, you can also spend a night in the Freiburgerhütte, located directly at the foot of the lake. Culinary delights and very special hospitality await you there.
For those who don’t dare to hike for 4 hours, but still don’t want to miss Lake Formarin, there is also an alternative: by purchasing a day ticket for 20 €, you will be chauffeured by public bus almost directly to the lakeshore.
Well, have you got a taste for it? We can promise you that this hike will be worth it in every aspect.
